DECA competed against schools across the area in the first competition of the year, while journalism students traveled to DC to attend the National Scholastic Press Association’s Fall Conference with 6,500 students from across the country. Champions Together held a luncheon to get to know one another and a Battle of the Classes took the place of Powderpuff.

During the award ceremony, senior Jamie Meurer claps with joy as she receives an award. Meurer won first place in the human resources category. “I was honestly surprised. Out of all of the people on that stage, I didn’t think I would get first place,” Meurer said. Photo by Haley Skalsky. Click on the photo for more images.

Meet The Press host Chuck Todd spoke to close to 6,000 high school journalism students at the opening ceremonies to the NSPA/JEA National Journalism Conference in Washington, D.C. “You shouldn’t be covering the presidential race… cover the local school board election. Only you can report on that story,” Todd said. Photo by Zoey Vreeland. Click on the photo for more images.

In between games at the Battle of the Classes, Assistant Principal Matthew McAllister, gets a pie in the face.
